What is Medical Massage Therapy and what other types of Massage are Offered?

Medical Massage is very similar to Therapeutic Massage but for specific medical conditions. The session is more focused in nature, choosing to focus on specific issues as opposed to doing a full body session. This allows the practitioner to maximize their time working on your problem areas.

Medical Massage differs from Therapeutic Massage in that it’s more specific. Certain massage techniques are chosen according to your specific Medical diagnosis.

Although I specialize in Medical Massage I also excel at Relaxation, Deep Tissue, and Therapeutic Massage. As well as Trigger Point Therapy and Myofascial Release.

Why you would consider a Medical Massage Therapy?

Medical Massage should be considered if you’re seeking a massage session that addresses a specific medical diagnosis. As opposed to a more general full body session (unless that’s the best approach for your diagnosis)

Some common medical issues include: Sciatica, Carpel Tunnel, Cancer, Edema, Lymphedema, Autoimmune Diseases (RA, Fibromyalgia, Lupus), Frozen Shoulder, Thoracic Inlet/Outlet Syndrome. As well as help recovering from injuries, traumas, and surgeries.

What’s an example of Medical Massage Therapy?

An example of a Medical Massage would be if you came in with carpal tunnel. Carpal Tunnel is pain in the wrist due to a pinched nerve (median nerve). In most cases, tight muscles surrounding your wrist bones (carpals) cause them to squeeze on the median nerve, which is the cause of the pain. So we’d focus on alleviating the tension in your forearm, arm, shoulders, and the shoulder girdle (chest and scapula). We’d also focus on releasing tension in your hand since its usually the source of tension in the arms. Most Medical Massage approach massages with this level of knowledge, understanding, and specificity.
